Apple had reportedly confirmed earlier this month that Apple Intelligence updates to Siri will take longer than expected, but while users wait for these updates, Siri in its current state seems to be failing at answering even simple questions. A Reddit thread dedicated to pointing out the failures of Siri kicked off with a simple question, “what month is it?” which Siri couldn't answer and instead replied, “Sorry, I don’t understand.”
Several other users chimed in on that thread and shared their own experiences with Siri interactions. The assistant gave the same “Sorry, I don’t understand” response to the same question posed by users on different iPhone models and iOS versions. When the question was rephrased to “what is the current month?”, Siri responded with “Saturday, March 1, 2025.”
Furthermore, another user asked Siri to play a podcast, to which it responded, “I'm trying to play from Apple Podcasts but it doesn’t look like you have it installed.” The Apple Podcasts app comes pre-installed and cannot be uninstalled, which makes this response not only surprising but inaccurate. Similarly, another user asked Siri to open an app that was clearly installed on their phone, but the assistant couldn’t find it and instead suggested the same app on the App Store with an ‘Open’ button next to it, rather than a ‘Get’ option.
Siri was introduced 14 years ago and while it has never been able to match up to Google Assistant, this seems like a new low. Apple has been working on improving the assistant with Apple Intelligence updates but those have been pushed back to later this year.
