AMD has already confirmed that mid-range Zen 5 APUs will be coming in early 2025, and per recent reports, they are to be unveiled at the CES 2025 event. While AMD hasn't shared much about the new APUs yet, ECS has just disclosed one of the two Krackan processors.
ECS shared it through a premature announcement about a new laptop, and per the announcement, the APU powering it features an 8-core CPU with Zen 5c cores. This could be either of the two rumored Ryzen AI 350 or AI 340. However, the company didn't reveal how many CUs the RDNA 3.5 iGPU of the APU has.
Of course, past reports have already hinted that the Krackan APUs will be positioned lower than the Strix Point options. To fill you in, the lower-end Ryzen AI 9 365 from that lineup has a 10-core CPU, and it sports the RDNA 3.5 Radeon 880M iGPU with 12 CUs.
While ECS didn't share the iGPU details of the Krackan APU powering its new laptop, it did share that there will be an XDNA 2 NPU that can deliver 40 TOPs of performance. So, the NPU is seeing a downgrade as well.
As for the laptop itself, dubbed UP42KP, ECS shares that it will feature a 14-inch display, sport USB4 ports, and have speedy WiFi 6. The TDP range is set from 15W to 54W, which is in line with what most mid-range laptops feature. ECS also shares that the UP42KP features a slim profile, measuring just 16.9 mm thick. Pricing and more details will be revealed at the CES 2025 launch event.
