Fewer and fewer smartphones have a dedicated headphone jack nowadays, so users have to use either wireless Bluetooth headphones or purchase a dongle. With the QX13, FiiO now aims to offer a particularly compact, yet high-quality headphone amplifier that can be attached to the back of smartphones using integrated magnets.
These magnets are MagSafe and Qi2 compatible, so the gadget can be attached to Apple iPhones, the HMD Skyline, Qi2 protective cases and many current Android smartphones. After connecting the FiiO QX13 to a smartphone via a USB-C cable, users can connect wired headphones either via a 3.5 mm or a balanced 4.4 mm headphone jack. The amplifier reaches an output of up to 570 mW per channel in mobile mode and 900 mW in desktop mode.
Equipped with an ESS Sabre Pro (ES9027PRO) DAC chip, the QX13 is designed to deliver high audio quality, capable of decoding music up to 32-bit at 768 kHz or DSD512. The 6.4 x 3 x 1.3-centimeter case is made of carbon or aluminum, depending on the color, and weighs between 33 and 39 grams. The 1.99-inch IPS panel on the front provides information about the set volume and the quality of the music being played.
