Samsung seems to have found another way to make holes in people’s pockets as the Galaxy S24 Ultra is literally ripping through jeans. Hopefully the S25 Ultra will deliver a better and safer experience.

Along with its premium price point, the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra has been ripping people’s pockets in more literal ways. Several Reddit users have shared images of the phone causing rips and tears in their jeans and trousers because of its sharp edges. The phone was released last year but this seems to be the first such occurrence, though there have been similar instances in the past with other smartphones.

Reddit user ‘partyhat-red’ shared on the S24Ultra subreddit an image that shows one of the edges of the Galaxy S24 Ultra poking through the pocket of their jeans. While some users have responded with comments blaming tight pants, others have shared photos of their own ripped jeans and similar experiences with trousers. There are also others who seemed to have had a similar experience with the older Galaxy S21.

While putting a case on the phone would be a solution to this problem, not everyone likes the feel of a case around their premium phone and cases also add extra bulk to already massive phones. The Galaxy S24 Ultra has a 6.8-inch display and 162.3x79mm, making it hard to use with one hand and a chunky piece of equipment in any pocket. The extra girth is also in part, due to the S Pen.

Not just pockets, people have also felt the sharp edges of a lot of smartphones, including the Galaxy S24 Ultra, digging into people’s palms.

With the Galaxy S25 Ultra, Samsung seems to have rounded off the edges a bit which should prevent these rips and tears, but only time will tell. It has an even larger display but fits in about the same form factor as the S24 Ultra.

This isn't the first time people have reported holes in their pockets caused by sharp edges of smartphones. Several years ago, people shared a similar experience with the Essential Phone on the dedicated subreddit.
