Honor has revealed more details about its next foldable, which it plans to launch in the wake of the Vivo X Fold5. For context, Vivo will be introducing its follow-up to the X Fold3 and X Fold3 Pro on June 25. Exactly a week later, Honor will unveil the Magic V5, albeit not as a direct X Fold5 competitor, apparently.
Instead, Honor is aiming directly for Samsung after positioning the Magic V3 in a similar fashion against the Galaxy Z Fold6. Specifically, the company claims to have designed the Magic V5 to 'directly challenge the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Z Fold7'. Based on current expectations, the Galaxy Z Fold7 and other new associated devices like the Galaxy Z Flip7 and new Galaxy Watch smartwatches will not arrive until mid-July.
According to Honor, the Magic V5 will surpass not just the X Fold5 but also the Oppo Find N5 to become the world's thinnest and lightest foldable. Whether that holds true once Samsung unveils the Galaxy Z Fold7 remains to be seen at this stage, though. Regardless, Honor also implies that the Magic V5 will leverage Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Elite platform by suggesting that the foldable will be its most powerful yet too.
Currently, it is unclear whether Honor has opted for Qualcomm's 7-core variant found in the Find N5 or its more powerful 8-core option used in the Motorola Razr 60 Ultra (curr. $899.99 on Amazon). The company has teased that the Magic V5 will match its peers with 'PC-level productivity too, though. On top of that, it seems that it has elected to showcase its new foldable in its rumoured 'Silk Gold' colourway. As it stands, this new colour is anticipated to be joined by Velvet Black, Tundra Green and Snow White finishes when Honor fully unveils the Magic V5 on July 2 with 80 W wired charging capabilities.
