There seems to be a battery war going on in the smartphone industry, a shift from the fast charging war from a few years ago. This year many Chinese manufacturers have launched smartphones with bigger batteries than any of their previous models. For example, the newly launched OnePlus Ace 5 packs the largest battery capacity ever in a OnePlus smartphone. Now, it appears that the battery war will continue into 2025.
According to a leak, Redmi is working on a new smartphone that will have a battery capacity of about 7,500mAh. Currently, the Redmi smartphone with the largest battery capacity is the Redmi K80 which has a 6,550mAh battery. The development of such a large battery capacity was first reported back in August by Digital Chat Station, the same source that has revealed the new info.
In the post made on Weibo in late August, he revealed Xiaomi was testing various combinations of large battery capacities and fast charging solutions. Among the listed combinations he shared was a 6,000mAh battery that charges at 120W — it adopted this combination for the Redmi K80 Pro.
Another combination is a 6,500mAh battery paired with 100W fast charging — the Redmi K80's 6,550mAh battery charges at 90W. The leak also revealed a 7,500mAh battery with support for 100W fast charging and a 7,000mAh battery that charges at 120W.
The upcoming Redmi smartphone with the 7,500mAh battery is reported to support 90W fast charging, and that battery and fast charging combination is speculated to debut in the Redmi Turbo 4 Pro.
According to Digital Chat Station, the phone will have a high-performance
processor and a flat display. The high-performance
processor has been reported by some to be MediaTek's new Dimensity 8400 processor which has eight Cortex-A725 CPU cores. However, that may not be the case as the Dimensity 8400 has been confirmed to power the Redmi Turbo 4 which means the pro may have a different processor. The leaker also provided additional details of the phone in the comments, such as a capable primary rear camera and a possible H1 2025 launch date.
If you are wondering when the main Xiaomi smartphone line will get a 7,000mAh or larger battery capacity, Digital Chat Station has revealed there are no plans for that yet. The Xiaomi 15 Pro has a 6,100mAh battery that charges at 90W via a wired charger and at 50W using a wireless charger. That's not only a bigger battery capacity than most of its rivals such as the iPhone 16 Pro Max and Pixel 9 Pro XL (128GB curr. available on Amazon for $849) can boast of, but it also charges significantly faster.
