Philips has announced a new pair of Bluetooth headphones with some pretty good features (at least on paper), but there's a caveat. The new headphones are the Philips H8000E with an over-the-ear design, active-noise cancellation, and several hours of battery life.
The headphones have a foldable design and are reportedly lightweight, with some parts made from recycled plastic. It also has removable ear pads and batteries that are easily replaceable, ensuring that they can be used for a long time. They are available in black, but it is not known if there will be other colors.
The Philips H8000E headphones have 40mm graphene drivers which are considered high quality just like the beryllium drivers of the Moondrop Edge headphones (available on Amazon for $79.99). There's also active-noise cancellation, and Bluetooth LE Audio with support for LC3 codec and Bluetooth Auracast. They also support LDAC and have Bluetooth Multipoint and Spatial Audio. The headphones work with the Philips Headphones app, so users can adjust features such as noise cancellation.
There are physical buttons on one of the ear cups to control playback, adjust the volume, and activate ANC. The Philips H8000E has a battery life of up to 50 hours with ANC turned on, but with ANC off, it can last up to 70 hours. There's fast charging — a 10-minute charge via USB-C will provide up to 8 hours of playback.
Philips is keeping a tight lip on the price of the headphones but says they fall under the mid-range category. It is also delaying availability until September 2025 which is a long time to wait for a pair of headphones. When they finally arrive, they will be available to buy in Europe, the UK, and the US.
