The next Call of Duty is in development and it looks like the name and a few story details have been leaked. The game is said to be titled Call of Duty: Modern Warfare IV and follow the story of Modern Warfare III. The leak comes from a known tipster who has had a credible track record. Activision, on the other hand, has not shared any details about the next Call of Duty game.
The leak comes from TheGhostofHope over at Xcancel who claims that the 2026 Call of Duty will be called Call of Duty: Modern Warfare IV and is being developed by Infinity Ward. The ‘4’ is in Sino-Korean and the leaker states that both North and South Korea will play a significant role in the campaign. They go on to state that there will be three major factions – 141, SAS, and Republic of Korea – that will be working to take down Makarov and Konni Group to stop them from starting World War 3.
Modern Warfare IV is said to follow the events of Modern Warfare III after Shepherd’s demise and Soap being killed by Makarov. Like the other games in the franchise, it will have a modern setting but with some futuristic weapons and tech.
The Modern Warfare games sub-franchise kicked off with Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare from 2007. It was followed up by Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, after which the franchise was rebooted with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II, and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III with the latest coming out in 2023. While in the original Modern Warfare 3 from 2011, Captain Price ends up killing Makarov, the antagonist gets away in the rebooted 2023 title.
As mentioned earlier, Activision has not shared any details about the next Call of Duty game but seems to be dealing with the backlash of ads showing up in Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 and Warzone loadouts.
