Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 may replace the under display camera for a traditional hole punch or notch, a new leak suggests. The Galaxy Z Fold series has used under display cameras since the Z Fold 3.

Samsung has been using an under display camera (UDC) in its Galaxy Z Fold series since the Galaxy Z Fold 3. This has allowed the company to offer a large inner display with no interruptions. But it looks like things may change down the line as the Galaxy Z Fold 8 is said to ditch the UDC, but it is unclear what approach Samsung will take instead. The next Galaxy Fold phone, however, will still have the camera hidden under the display.

The latest leak comes from a user named yeux1122 over at Naver Blog and has been machine translated from Korean to English, so there might be some inconsistencies. The leaker states that an under display camera is hard to improve on and is not cost-effective, so while it will appear on the “next Galaxy model,” presumably the Galaxy Z Fold 7, things may change down the line. This suggests that the Galaxy Z Fold 8 may not come with a UDC and Samsung may instead go with a regular hole punch or notch for the selfie camera on its larger inner display.

The leaker goes on to state that Apple has postponed the use of under display camera tech for its devices and that Samsung will follow suit. Not just Samsung, but under display cameras in general deliver lacklustre photos and videos since they have to shoot through a display material.

It should be noted that the leak mentions the next Galaxy S model, but considering that Samsung does not use under display cameras on its S series phones and that the text has been machine translated, the phone in question is believed to be the next Galaxy Z Fold. This also falls in line with other leaks surrounding the Galaxy S26 Ultra suggesting that Samsung is not going to use an under display camera for its “Ultra” models at leat for the next two to three years.
