The launch of Apple's first foldable is still thought to be a while off. According to recent analysis from Ming-Chi Kuo, the so-called iPhone Fold may debut next September alongside the iPhone 18 series. As it stands, Apple's best-case scenario is that it ships 5 million units by the end of 2026.
In the meantime, Digital Chat Station has shed new light on the device's foldable display and other features. According to the leaker, Apple is currently prototyping the iPhone Fold with two 48 MP cameras, which would position it between the company's current regular and Pro iPhones. Meanwhile, Digital Chat Station reports that Apple is developing a composite material hinge and a titanium alloy body to maximise durability while minimising weight.
On top of that, the leaker adds that Apple's latest prototype features a foldable display with a 14.1:10 aspect ratio. In other words, the iPhone Fold may be closer to the form factor of the Oppo Find N2 and Pixel Fold than the newer Find N5 or Pixel 9 Pro Fold. To that end, Samsung is said to have provided a 7.58-inch foldable panel with a 2,713 x 1,920-pixel native resolution.
As a result, it seems that the iPhone Fold will be smaller than the iPad mini 7 (curr. $489 on Amazon) when unfolded on account of the latter's 8.3-inch fixed display. Apple's first foldable should have a sub-6 inch cover display too, which would be the first iPhone to fall below 6 inches since the iPhone 13 mini.
